Who We Are
The East Bay Solidarity School (EBSS) is an enrichment program for kids ages 5 and up. We are a resource for families pursuing alternative educational models, especially families who are interested in transformative justice, emergent learning, and cultivating a spirit of direct democracy.
We love to explore Nature and our place as a part of it, through high energy games, crafts, plant medicine, food, farming, and wild-tending. We are constantly designing activities to help kids explore new interests as they emerge, while also weaving in age-appropriate math, science, and literacy learning opportunities through hands-on projects.
At the Solidarity School, kids and teachers plan the day together. By talking through how they want to spend their time, our kids practice weaving the fabric of community: balancing the various needs and (sometimes conflicting!) desires within the group.
We meet in outdoor locations like the Gill Tract Farm and Joaquin Miller Forest.
Is EBSS right for you?
We designed EBSS for families who respond with an enthusiastic “yes” to the following questions:
How to Enroll
We have just begun our Fall 2020 semester. We are looking to fill 4 more spots with kids who identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Color.
If you have read through the website (especially the FAQ page) and you think the Solidarity School might be a good fit for you, please email us!

Is EBSS right for you?
We designed EBSS for families who respond with an enthusiastic “yes” to the following questions:
- Would you like your child to have a lot of agency over their own educational path, via child-centered collective decision making?
- Do you believe in the need for reparations?
- Do you want your child to be in a space that’s majority children of color?
- Do you believe play is essential to learning?
