Most days, we meet at Gill Tract Community Farm - a little more when the season is ripe and a little less when the garden is taking its winter rest. Over the years, the kids have taken a big interest in the medicinal herbs garden, identifying plants, and making potions. They are also fascinated to find out what is happening under stumps and in the soil. Tracking the families of hawks and turkeys living on the farm is really exciting for us too. Last year we got to watch a turkey nest and hatch her eggs in the Children's Garden.
We have been placemaking in the Children's Garden for the past 3 years. So far, we have built a shade structure, a cobb bench, slab tables, a tool cabinet, project and materials storage, and coat racks. We plan to keep improving the space. Right now we are working on setting up a tool library and bamboo play dome where we will grow vines to create a shady play house.
